The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health reported there’s currently 5.5 million Emergency Department attendance by children and young people in England. Based on current trends, visits are expected to increase by 50%. By 2030, outpatient visits from children and young people are projected to increase by 48% to 16.5 million in England. The college identified a shortage of 752 Paediatric Consultants.
With the UK population projected to increase to 69 million by 2024 and 72.7 million by 2034, the NHS has a larger demand for doctors roles. In 2015/16 there was a 40% increase in the number of operations performed compared to 2005/06 directly increasing the number of patients receiving anaesthetics.
