Revalidation is the process by which all licensed doctors are required to verify on a regular basis that they are fit to practice and are up to date in their chosen field to ensure they are able to provide an excellent level of care.
Holding a license to practice is becoming an indicator that the doctor continues to meet the professional criteria set by the GMC and the specialists standard set by the medical Royal Colleges and Faculties.
Revalidation aims to give extra assurance to patients that their doctor is being regularly checked by their employer and the GMC.
Licensed doctors are required to revalidate every five years, by having an annual appraisal ahead of their revalidation date and every year thereafter based on our core guidance for doctors - good medical practice.
